Impeding aid to besieged refugee camp in Syria may amount to war crime – UN official

17 January 2014 – The United Nations human rights chief today strongly condemned the repeated obstruction of aid convoys trying to bring supplies to a besieged Palestinian refugee camp in Syria, stating that impeding humanitarian assistance to desperate civilians may amount to a war crime.

Syria proposes Aleppo cease-fire, prisoner swap

Veolia contracted to destroy Syria chemicals

THE UK government has contracted France’s Veolia to destroy 150 t of chemicals taken as part of international plans to dismantle Syria’s weapons programme.
The company will destroy the chemicals at its 100,000 t/y Ellesmere Port incinerator in northwest England, near the city of Liverpool. It says that the materials it has been tasked with destroying are routinely used in the pharmaceuticals industry and “are similar in nature to standard industrial materials safely processed on a regular basis at Ellesmere Port.”
