اليمن تبدو تماما مثل سوريا بعد خمس سنوات من الحرب

خمسة أشهر من الحرب جعلت اليمن تبدو من حيث الدمار مشابهة لما شهدته سوريا بعد خمس سنوات, وفقا لما قاله رئيس منظمة الصليب الأحمر يوم الأربعاء .
بعد عودته من زيارة هذه الدولة التي تمزقها الحرب, صرح بيتر مورير, لوكالة الأسيوشيتد برس بأن الفقر المستشري, وأشهر من الحرب والقيود المفروضة على الواردات بسبب الحظر الدولي المفروض على البلاد ساهم في هذه الظروف "الكارثية".

حوالي 8 أطفال يقتلون أو يشوهون في اليمن كل يوم نتيجة للصراع, وذلك وفقا لما قالته اليونيسف يوم الأربعاء. حوالي 400 طفل قتلوا وجرح حوالي 600 آخرون. قدر عمال الإغاثة سابقا بأن ثلث المقاتلين المنخرطين في الحرب تقل أعمارهم عن 18 عاما.
محادثات السلام التي تجري بدعم دولي يبدو أنها غير مثمرة حتى الآن, مما يترك الصراع دون نهاية في الأفق.
يوم الاثنين, قالت منظمة العفو الدولية بأن جميع أطراف الصراع ربما تكون ارتكبت جرائم حرب. حققت المنظمة في ثماني ضربات جوية شنت من قبل التحالف الدولي, وكشفت عن استهداف مناطق ذات كثاقة سكانية عالية, تضم منازل للمدنيين ومدارس وأسواق ومساجد. في معظم الحالات لم يكن هناك هدف عسكري يمكن وجوده في مكان قريب.
كما أشارت منظمة العفو إلى ارتكاب الحوثيين جرائم حرب خلال القتل, حدثت غالبا بسبب الاستخدام العشوائي للسلاح في المناطق السكنية. أصدرت منظمات حقوقية تقريرا من 30 صفحة تضمن مجموعة من الروايات تصف فيها وجود جثث مترامية وأجزاء من اجساد مقطوعة.
وصف أحد شهود العيان إحدى الهجمات حيث ركض طفل باتجاهه والدم يسيل من عنقه مع وجود فتحة في رأسه بسبب شظية أصابته "ووجود قطع من مخه تلطخ الجدران والنوافذ".
قالت دوناتيلا روفيرا, مستشارة الأزمات في منظمة العفو :" المدنيون في جنوب اليمن وجدوا أنفسهم عالقين وسط إطلاق النار. جميع أطراف الصراع أظهروا لامبالاة وتوحشا تجاه سلامة المدنيين".

Yemen 'already looks like Syria after five years of war'

Five months of war in Yemen has wrought destruction similar to that seen in Syria after five years, said the head of the International Red Cross on Wednesday.
Returning from a visit to the war-ravaged nation, Peter Maurer told the Associated Press that entrenched poverty, months of intensified warfare and limits on imports because of an international embargo have contributed to "catastrophic" conditions.
More than 1900 people have been killed since a Saudi-led military coalition began bombing Houthi rebel targets across Yemen in March. The Houthis, a Zaydi revivalist movement, swept into the capital Sanaa last year, overthrowing the internationally-backed president and raising Saudi fears that the group’s Iranian allies were behind the move.
The United Nations said on Wednesday that the conflict has left Yemen on the brink of a famine. War has engulfed most of the country, destroying an already rickety infrastructure and leaving some neighbourhoods unrecognisable.
"The images I have from Sanaa and Aden remind of what I have seen in Syria," said Maurer. "So Yemen after five months looks like Syria after five years."
As many as eight children are being killed or maimed every day in Yemen as a result of the conflict, the United Nation’s child agency, Unicef, said on Wednesday. Nearly 400 children have been killed and over 600 injured. Aid workers have previously estimated that a third of all fighters sucked into the country’s war are under 18.
Internationally-backed peace talks have seemed fruitless so far, leaving no end to the conflict in sight.
On Monday, Amnesty International said that all parties to the conflict may have committed war crimes. The group investigated eight airstrikes carried out by the international air coalition, revealing the targeting of heavily-populated areas, including civilian homes, a school, a market and a mosque. In the majority of cases no military target could be located nearby.
Amnesty also pointed to evidence of Houthi crimes during the fighting, often due to the indiscriminate use of imprecise weapons in residential areas. A 30-page report released by the human rights group included disturbing accounts describing bodies being sliced open and body parts severed.
An eyewitness to one attack described a child running towards him with blood running down his neck and a hole in his head from shrapnel and “pieces of brains smeared on the walls and windows”.
“Civilians in southern Yemen have found themselves trapped in a deadly crossfire," said Donatella Rovera, Amnesty's senior crisis adviser.
"All the parties to this conflict have displayed a ruthless and wanton disregard for the safety of civilians."
