سوريا : تعرض مراسل الولايات المتحدة عملية إعدام وهمية لمدة خمسة أيام قبل أن يلوذوا بالفرار

 

Richard Engel, the Chief Foreign Correspondent of America's NBC Television, revealed details of his ordeal shortly after crossing into Turkey.

The correspondent was seized by 15 armed men along with Ghazi Balkiz, his producer and John Kooistra, a cameraman, as they entered Idlib province in northern Syria on Thursday.

الصحفي في ان بي سي الأمريكية ، ريتشارد انجل ، يطلق سراحه بعد خطفه في سوريا

Engel, 39, has been reporting on the Syrian civil war, which has killed more than 40,000 people since March 2011.

"After being kidnapped and held for five days inside Syria by an unknown group, NBC News Chief Foreign Correspondent Richard Engel and his production crew members have been freed unharmed," NBC said in a statement. "We are pleased to report they are safely out of the country."

After being held by an unknown group in Syria for five days, NBC reporter Richard Engel and his crew are safe.

Engel had crossed into Syria from Turkey last Thursday and disappeared shortly thereafter. The NBC team was blindfolded, "tossed into the back of a truck," and driven away, according to a statement from NBC News. Sometime on Monday night, Engel's captors encountered a rebel checkpoint and got into a gunfight. Two of the kidnappers were killed while the rest fled.
