المتمردون السوريون يشنون هجمات على المطارات الشمالية

Insurgents battled with troops on the perimeter of the Aleppo international airport, besieging the nearby military Brigade 80 in an attempt to push through to the airport itself, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said. At the same time, hundreds of fighters with two hardcore Islamist rebel groups, the Al-Nusra Front and Ahrar al-Sham, fought soldiers around the Taftanaz airbase in the northwest province of Idlib, the British-based Observatory said.

سورية لن تنضم إيران للحرب ضد إسرائيل

This assessment, from the intelligence department of Israel's foreign ministry, predicts that Syria's army would not join its Iranian ally in a war against Israel because of the 21-month uprising. How did the U.N. come up with its new Syria death toll?

كيف ستتصرف الأمم المتحدة مع عدد القتلى الجديد في سورية؟

.That's the death toll that Navi Pillay, the U.N. high commissioner for human rights, assigned to the Syrian government's bloody political crackdown and the resulting civil war, over a period ranging from March 15, 2011, to November 30, 2012. The precise number is, of course, an educated guess, but that figure has almost certainly passed the 60,000 mark in the new year, Pillay said.
