سورية : اعتقال المتمردين (للعسكريين) من القاعدة الجوية هو "دفعة معنوية هامة"

Four rebel brigades finally over-ran the Taftanaz base, in Idlib province south-west of Aleppo, on Friday after a siege lasting four months. Captured soldiers gathered together to give statements to rebel video-makers said the base leaders had escaped, leaving conscripts behind in the last days of the battle.

Rebels fighting the regime of Bashar al-Assad scored a significant victory on Friday when they took control of one of Syria's most important northern airbases, seizing tanks, helicopters and large amounts of ammunition.Fighters had laid siege to the Taftanaz base near the town of Idlib for months. After seizing several buildings on Wednesday they stormed the sprawling complex on Friday morning. "As of now, the rebels are in full control of the airbase," Idlib-based activist Mohammad Kanaan said.

BEIRUT — A rebel force of mostly Islamist fighters overran the largest military air base in northern Syria on Friday, striking a decisive blow against the government of President Bashar al-Assad and demonstrating the rising strength of religious extremists within the Syrian opposition.Among the fighters who participated in the 10-day battle to take the Taftanaz base in Idlib province was the al-Nusra Front, a militant group that is thought to have links to al-Qaeda and has been designated a foreign terrorist organization by the United States government.

BEIRUT -- Syrian rebels on Friday said that after a weeks-long battle in northwestern Idlib province they had seized a strategic air base, depriving the government of its ability to carry out helicopter airstrikes in the area.The Taftanaz air base has been used by the government to stage helicopter attacks on rebels in the province, adjacent to the Turkish border. The campaign to seize it had been spearheaded by hardline Islamic fighting groups, such as the Al Nusra front, which is affiliated with Al Qaeda.
