Syrian refugees 'will not be allowed to cross Israel border'

The men were allowed to cross Israel's frontier with Syria on the Golan Heights after signalling to Israeli soldiers that they were wounded. Troops administered emergency first aid treatment before taking them to Ziv Medical Centre in the northern Israeli town of Safed, where they were detained overnight.

Yahya Hawwa was five when his father and uncle were killed in front of him in Hama, Syria, in 1982. This was the era of Bashar al-Assad's father, Hafez, whose forces are believed to have massacred 20,000–40,000 Syrian citizens. The memory left an indelible scar on Hawwa – now 36 and dubbed the "singer of the Syrian revolution".

Israeli hospital treats wounded from Syria

مستشفى إسرائيلي يداوي جرحى من سورية

Jerusalem (CNN) -- An Israeli hospital is treating people wounded in Syria, where civil war has killed thousands and wounded thousands more.

Ziv Medical Center in Safed, Israel, "cannot confirm" whether the seven Syrians being treated are from the Syrian opposition or the military, said Dr. Oscar Embon, the hospital's director.
